Tehachapi

Tehachapi windmills have always been a staple part of the Tehachapi mountains above the Mojave Desert. I’ve always wanted to paint them so this was the perfect opportunity to do so.

This was my first painting on my own. It was on the way back to my house in the Mojave Desert when I looked back and saw this sunset. I just had to put it down on canvas so I went home and painted it that night. It is also the painting for Nature Back Home logo.

This was another sunset right after a summer thunder storm in the middle of the Mojave Desert.

The History of Nature Back Home

Nature Back Home in itself explains David’s paintings. Bright sunrises, sunsets, vivid colors, and nostalgic landscapes are snapshots on canvas conveying scenes people often witness at one point in their lives and only wish they had a camera on hand to capture it. “So many times I would be sitting at a beach in California, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, walking through the Mojave Desert, or driving through the vast plains of Nebraska and South Dakota and would be in awe of nature’s sheer beauty. That’s when I realized I need to put this down on canvas so everybody can say, ‘Hey! I’ve seen that before!’” David Stowe David grew up in the Southwest corner of the Mojave Desert in a town called Quartz Hill. He always loved drawing but never really felt the urge to make a career out of it. His mother was probably his biggest fan and was always encouraging his art work. After getting out of high school he enlisted in the U.S Navy as a Corpsmen assigned to the Marines. After four years, he got out of the Navy and began working in hospitals around Southern California as a CNA until landing a job as an Orthopaedic physician Assistant in Panorama city California. Two years later he was laid off from his job and began acting in television, movies, and theatrical plays. David started to realize that the entertainment industry was exciting and right up his alley but a life changing experience happened when he and his wife were expecting their fourth child. The baby (Cheyanne) had a stroke before she was born causing all of her organs to fail and she was not expected to live. David and his wife refused to give up and were at the hospital everyday for three months. Eventually she began to come around and she was released from the hospital. She is now six years old and has Cerebral Palsy; however, she alive and happy. After this episode David realized he needed a more stable job and began attending college. On a trip with his family to a Thomas Kinkade gallery, David thought he might give painting a try and since his mother had always been his biggest motivator for his art, he decided to give it a shot. He painted his mother a copy of a painting off of a calendar and it was a dead ringer. His mother loved it so much she had it framed and hung on the wall over her piano where it hangs to this day. David now resides in Bellevue Nebraska where his wife is stationed in the Air Force with his five children and two Miniature Schnauzers. He will be graduating from Peru State University in December of 07 with his BS degree and will be teaching high school, continue coaching high school football, and painting nature scenes that we’ve had all scene one time or another back home.
